Buskers Festival 2007 in aid of the Bone Marrow Donor Programme

Date of Post 06/10/07 Category of Post General Events

2006 was an excellent year for the Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP) having achieved our target of recruiting 5,000 new potential donors to the Register as well as getting financial support from various foundations, corporate organisations and individuals.

This year, we are aiming for another 5,000 but this time focusing on Singapore’s minority races as the chances of a match between a patient and an unrelated donor are one in 20,000 within the ethnic group.  The BMDP will work with various religious and cultural organisations in order to gain support from the local Indian and Malay communities.

In support of these objectives, we will need to raise S$1 million this year to pay for the tissue typing of the new donors, which costs S$150.00 per person, as well as the staffing of our donor searches and recruitment programmes.

This year, the BMDP is teaming up with a group of Raffles Junior College alumni who will be organising a Buskers Festival during the June school holidays.  The Buskers Festival 2007 will run for a week at various locations throughout Singapore.  The Festival will provide a platform for local performance groups to showcase their talent as well as raising awareness for the BMDP.  All funds raised will go towards funding BMDP’s tissue typing costs.
